Bronze Flange Applications
Where copper-alloy flanges are specified, and which grades and flange types suit each service.
Marine
Marine systems combine seawater exposure, vibration and mixed-metal piping. Bronze and aluminium bronze flanges are specified for engine-room cooling water, ballast and general service lines where copper-alloy pipework is already installed. Aluminium bronze holds up in flowing seawater better than tin bronzes, while leaded bronzes remain an economical choice for fresh-water auxiliary systems.

Shipbuilding
Hull and machinery piping in many yards is built with copper-alloy components: seawater cooling, fire-main and bilge lines. Flange drilling and thickness are normally set by the yard’s piping standard or a class-approved drawing. We machine to the drawing and supply the documentation the specification lists.

Offshore
Offshore platforms and support vessels run seawater lift, firewater and cooling circuits with continuous chloride exposure. Nickel aluminium bronze grades suit the heavier-duty flanges in these systems. Material grade, heat treatment, testing and documentation are fixed by the project specification, and we manufacture to what it says.

Desalination
Desalination plants carry seawater, brine and treated water in the same facility. Copper-nickel and nickel aluminium bronze are widely used seawater alloys; pump casings, valve bodies and flanges in C95800 are one option where the process specification allows it. The designer sets velocity limits and alloy selection for each stream.

Seawater Systems
Seawater circuits — intake, circulating water, sampling and fire-main branches — need alloys that tolerate chloride and moderate flow velocity. We machine seawater-service flanges in aluminium bronze and nickel aluminium bronze. Flow-velocity limits and design margins remain with the system designer.

Pumps
Pump manufacturers and rebuilders use bronze flanges as suction and discharge connections and as companion flanges on casings. Aluminium bronze is selected for wear and corrosion resistance, and leaded bronzes where easy machining and moderate duty are enough. Non-standard bolt patterns are common on pump nozzles, so drawing-driven work is routine.

Valves
Valve builders specify bronze and gunmetal flanges as end connections on gate, globe, check and ball valves. C83600 and C84400 are long-established valve-body alloys, and aluminium bronze is used where higher strength is needed. End flanges are machined to a standard pattern or to the valve maker’s drawing.

Water Treatment
Water-treatment skids and pipework carry raw water, dosing chemicals and treated water. Alloy choice depends on the medium. Where potable-water contact applies, confirm the alloy’s lead content and any approvals required, because leaded bronzes are not used for drinking-water wetted parts under U.S. lead-free rules.

Oil & Gas
Oil and gas facilities use copper alloys mainly in seawater, firewater and utility services rather than in hydrocarbon process lines. Flange material, testing and documentation follow the operator’s material specification, and we work to it as written.

Petrochemical
In petrochemical plants bronze flanges appear on cooling-water, utility and instrument lines, and in selected services where copper alloys are compatible. Ammonia- and sulfur-bearing media attack many copper alloys, so compatibility is checked before a grade is recommended.

Chemical Processing
Copper alloys resist many dilute non-oxidizing acids, salt solutions and organic media, but are attacked by oxidizing acids, ammonia and some amines. Chemical suitability is established from the service conditions before we suggest a grade, and the final alloy decision rests with the process engineer.

Power Generation
Power plants use bronze flanges on cooling-water circuits, auxiliary systems and water boxes where seawater or brackish water is the coolant. Conformity to the plant piping specification and material traceability are typically the controlling requirements.

Industrial Piping
General industrial piping — compressed air, process water, lubrication and fluid power — uses bronze flanges where wear resistance, machinability or galvanic compatibility with copper piping is wanted. Where spark resistance matters, confirm the alloy against the applicable hazardous-area requirement.

General Engineering
Machine builders, OEMs and maintenance teams order bronze flanges to a print: special bolt patterns, hubs, reduced bores and thicknesses. We machine to your drawing in the grade you specify.
