Manufacturer & Exporter of Bronze, Gunmetal & Aluminium Bronze Flanges

Socket-Weld Bronze Flanges Manufacturer & Exporter

Socket-weld flanges receive the pipe in a machined recess and are joined with a single fillet joint at the hub. The bore matches the pipe inside diameter, which keeps the flow path smooth in small-bore lines.

  • 7 UNS grades
  • MTC where required
  • Standard pattern or customer drawing

Product Overview

The pipe seats in the socket against a shoulder, then the joint is made at the hub. Compared with a slip-on flange, the insertion depth is fixed by the machined socket. That repeatability is useful in small-bore process, lubrication and instrument piping where many identical joints are made.

Technical Description

Gap allowance at the socket shoulder, filler metal and welding or brazing procedure are defined by the piping specification. Aluminium bronze grades (C95400, C95500, C95800, C63000) are welded to qualified procedures; leaded grades (C83600, C84400, C93200) are generally brazed, because lead makes fusion welding of these alloys unreliable. Socket joints are commonly used in small bore; the designer decides whether the joint suits cyclic or high-vibration duty.

Construction

  • Socket bore sized for the pipe OD, with a machined shoulder at the specified depth
  • Through-bore matched to pipe inside diameter
  • Hub profile for the fillet joint
  • Flat or raised face; drilling to class pattern or drawing
  • Optional counterbore at the socket mouth

Stock form and the governing specification depend on grade and size. Mechanical properties are in the data page for each grade.

Dimensions and Sizes

Dimensions to confirm in the RFQ are listed below. Socket depth and bore are the controlling features; they follow the standard or the pipe schedule you supply.

Dimensions to confirm

Socket bore and depthPer pipe OD and drawing
Through-boreMatched to pipe ID or drawing
Hub OD and lengthPer standard or drawing
Flange OD, thicknessClass table or drawing
Bolt circle (PCD)Class pattern or drawing
Bolt holesCount and diameter per class or drawing

Sizes

Socket-weld flanges are generally used in the smaller nominal sizes. State NPS, pipe schedule or OD and wall, and class in the RFQ.

Pressure Classes

Socket-weld flanges are typically specified at Class 150 or Class 300 in copper alloys. The permitted pressure depends on alloy, temperature, joint quality and the governing standard; confirm the class and the joint procedure with the piping specification.

Facing Options

Raised face and flat face are available, with the contact finish per MSS SP-6 or your stated roughness.

Applications

  • Small-bore seawater and cooling-water branches
  • Lubrication and fuel-oil lines
  • Instrument and sampling connections
  • Process skids with repeatable joints

Manufacturing

Cast or wrought blanks are bored and counterbored to form the socket and shoulder, then turned for hub, face and OD, and drilled. Socket depth is verified to drawing before release.

Inspection and Documentation

Socket diameter and depth, through-bore, face finish, PCD and hole pattern are inspected. Material verification and MTC are provided where required; weld or braze procedure approval and NDT belong to the fabricator unless specified on the purchase order.

Custom Requirements

Custom socket depth, counterbores, reduced through-bores, special hub lengths and non-standard drilling.

FAQ

Socket-Weld Flanges: common questions

Can leaded bronze socket-weld flanges be welded?

Leaded grades such as C83600, C84400 and C93200 are generally brazed rather than fusion welded, because lead makes welding these alloys unreliable. Aluminium bronzes are welded to qualified procedures.

What size range suits socket-weld flanges?

Socket-weld flanges are generally used in smaller nominal sizes. State the NPS, pipe OD and wall, and class in the RFQ.

Which dimensions control a socket-weld flange?

Socket bore and depth are the controlling features, followed by the through-bore, hub dimensions and bolt pattern.
