Each page covers construction, materials, dimensions, pressure class, facing, applications, manufacturing and inspection.

Slip-On Flanges
Pipe slides in and is brazed or welded. Forgiving alignment for general pipework.
View specification
Threaded / Screwed Flanges
Tapped bore (NPT or BSP). No welding at the joint.
View specification
Blind Flanges
Solid disc for line isolation, pressure testing and valve closure.
View specification
Socket-Weld Flanges
Pipe seats in a machined socket. Smooth bore for small-bore lines.
View specification
Lap Joint Flanges
Rotates on a stub end for easy bolt-hole alignment.
View specification
Plate Flanges
Flat drilled rings machined to your diameter, bore and bolt pattern.
View specification
Reducing Flanges
Larger flange face, smaller bore or thread. No separate reducer.
View specification
Loose Flanges
Backing ring for collars, stub ends and lapped pipe ends.
View specification
Custom / Special Flanges
Non-standard flanges machined to your drawing or sample.

Flange type comparison
SM-PRD-01| Type | Joint to pipe | Typical use | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Slip-on | Brazed or welded over pipe | General pipework, seawater and cooling lines | Forgiving alignment; joint quality depends on procedure |
| Threaded / screwed | Internal pipe thread | Small-bore lines, hot-work-restricted areas | Limited in severe cyclic or thermal-shock service |
| Blind | None (solid disc) | Isolation, pressure testing, closures | Thickness is the key dimension |
| Socket-weld | Pipe seats in socket; one fillet joint | Small-bore process and instrument lines | Leaded grades are brazed, not welded |
| Lap joint | Rotates on stub end | Frequently dismantled systems | Stub end carries the seal |
| Plate | Brazed, welded or loose | Tank nozzles, equipment connections | Defined by OD, thickness, bore and PCD |
| Reducing | Slip-on, threaded or socket | Pump and valve nozzle adaptation | Specify both sizes |
| Loose | Rotates on collar or stub end | Marine and shipbuilding pipework | Sealing face is on the collar |
| Custom / special | Per drawing | OEM and replacement parts | Send your drawing |
Selection is a design decision for the piping engineer. This table is a starting point only.
One specification, nine flange types
Every flange type is available in the seven grades covered on this site. Material choice follows the service: aluminium bronze and nickel aluminium bronze for seawater and heavy duty, gunmetal and leaded bronzes for valve, pump and water service.
Visit the materials page for composition and mechanical data by UNS grade.
