UNS C95500 Aluminium Bronze Flanges Manufacturer & Exporter
C95500 adds nickel and a higher aluminium content to the aluminium bronze family, giving a higher strength than C95400. It is specified where load, wear and seawater exposure are heavier.

Physical and Fabrication Properties
Physical and fabrication data
SM-PHYS-C95500| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Density | 0.272 lb/in³ (7.53 g/cm³) |
| Machinability rating | 50 (CDA scale, C36000 = 100) |

Physical and fabrication values are published reference data (CDA / producer data sheets). Machinability: free-cutting brass C36000 = 100.
Corrosion Characteristics and Service
The nickel content of C95500 improves strength and helps resistance to corrosion and erosion in flowing water. The alloy performs in seawater and brackish water, in many industrial water services and in non-oxidizing acids, and keeps its strength at moderately elevated temperatures. As with other aluminium bronzes, microstructure and any post-weld heat treatment matter for long-term seawater service.
Compared with C95800, C95500 trades some ductility for strength: the as-cast minimum tensile strength is higher, and the minimum elongation is lower. The choice between them is made on the strength-versus-toughness balance in the project specification.
Manufacturing and Machining
Machinability is rated 50 on the CDA scale: steady, with rigid fixturing and carbide tooling. The higher-strength condition raises cutting forces, so finish machining allowance and heat-treatment sequence are agreed when the alloy is ordered in a heat-treated state.
Flange blanks come from sand, centrifugal or continuous-cast stock. Weld repair of castings and any heat treatment after repair follow the specification on the purchase order.
UNS C95500 Flanges and Applications
C95500 flanges are chosen for heavy-duty service: higher-class drilling, large-diameter flanges and flanges that will see high bolt loads, shock or erosion, in marine, offshore and industrial systems. Where the specification asks for a higher-strength alternative to C95400, or where C95800 is not named, C95500 is a candidate.
Flange types in UNS C95500
SM-FLG-C95500| Flange type | Notes |
|---|---|
| Blind Flanges | High-strength closure plates at heavier classes |
| Slip-On Flanges | Heavier-duty pipework connections |
| Lap Joint Flanges | Large-diameter rotating flanges |
| Loose Flanges | Backing rings for collar joints |
- Heavy-duty marine and offshore connections
- High-load pump and valve flanges
- Large-diameter seawater and cooling-water lines
- Industrial equipment under shock or erosion exposure
Inspection and Documentation
Material verification is against UNS C95500 and the casting specification, with MTC where required. Dimensional inspection covers OD, thickness, bore, PCD and hole pattern; faces are examined visually. Mechanical testing, liquid penetrant or radiographic examination, and pressure testing are carried out only when stated on the purchase order, and heat-treatment records are provided when heat treatment is specified.

UNS C95500: common questions
How does C95500 differ from C95400?
C95500 adds nickel (3.0 to 5.5 percent) and has a higher minimum as-cast strength: 90 ksi (about 620 MPa) against 75 ksi (about 515 MPa) for C95400 under ASTM B148.
How machinable is C95500?
It has a CDA machinability rating of 50, where free-cutting brass C36000 is 100. Rigid set-ups and carbide tooling give clean results.
Can C95500 be welded?
Aluminium bronzes can be welded to qualified procedures; repair welding and any heat treatment after repair follow the specification on the order.
